2nd International Conference on Structural Condition Assessment, Monitoring and Improvement
(SCAMI-2)

Changsha, China

19-21 November 2007

Organised by:

School of Civil Engineering and Architecture

Central South University

Chaired by:

lProf. Wei-Xin Ren, Central South University, China

lProf. Hong Hao, University of Western Australia, Australia

INTRODUCTION
Civil infrastructures serve as the underpinnings of our highly industrialized society. They are normally designed with long life span and always subjected to operational loads. From the viewpoints of economics, serviceability and sustainability, it is necessary to conduct structural condition assessment and health monitoring to ensure the safety of these infrastructures under various loading conditions. Theory, test, maintenance and management are often required to make these infrastructures continue to function well and even improve to meet increasing demands.
Following the success of the 1st International Conference on Structural Condition Assessment, Monitoring and Improvement (SCAMI-1) held in Perth, Australia on December 12-14, 2005, the conference committee has decided to announce the organization of a second edition of the conference, that will be held at the Campus of the Central South University at Changsha, China, from 19-21, November, 2007. The SCAMI-2 conference will continue to address the recent development in condition assessment and health monitoring system for building, bridge, transportation, marine, underground, and other civil infrastructures. It aims to provide a forum for researchers, practicing engineers and structure owners to present new results and exchange ideas on improving the structural performance and sustainability at a minimum cost. The conference is also intended to initiate collaborative partnerships among government, academic and industry communities. This second conference is to present and publish the state-of-the-art results relating to: (a) new concepts, (b) algorithms, (c) technologies, and (d) applications in structural condition assessment and health monitoring, intelligent materials, sustainable structures and systems, and structural maintenance and improvement. The organizers of the SCAMI-07 invite you to attend what promises to be an exciting experience with many opportunities for mutually beneficial interactions.

INVITATION
You are invited to attend the 2nd SCAMI to be held in Changsha, the capital of Hunan Province, China from Monday to Wednesday 19 – 21 November, 2007.The organizing committee is working hard to meet the traditional high standards of the previous SCAMI conference. The conference will not only provide a forum for participants around the world to review, discuss and present the latest developments in the broad disciplines of structural condition assessment, monitoring and improvement. It will also provide opportunities for participants to renew and expand personal and professional friendships and contacts, and a range of post conference tours in Changsha, a fascinating and historical city in the central south part of China. Please mark your calendar and make plans to attend this fruitful and exciting event.
