Evolve97 is the first Evolutionary Structural Optimization program in the world which is developed in the environment of Windows 95 (Windows, Windows 95 and Windows NT are trademarks of Microsoft Corporation). Although relatively small in size (only 480kB), it will allow you to see how easy it is to use the ESO method to optimize structures.
System Requirements and Installation of Evolve97
Evolve97 is a 32-bit application for Windows, so you should have Windows 95 or Windows NT installed in your computer to run Evolve97. You should also have at least 16 MB of RAM installed in your machine and no less than 50MB of free Hard-Disk space. Evolve97 may not run if your system is smaller than this. In Windows 95’s ‘Display Properties’ - Settings section, the ‘Color Palette’ must be set to ‘High Color (16bit)’. Evolve97 has been configured for this number of colours and may not work efficiently if lower colour settings are selected.
This version of the program is limited in the number of elements that can be used in a model. The maximum mesh size is 55×88, totalling 4840 plate elements. As well this program can only optimize for one load case and one criterion (the von Mises stress). The full version of the program has no restrictions and can be used for all element types (beam, plates and bricks), multiple load cases and multiple criteria, as well as other solution types such as natural frequency and buckling optimization.
